Dr. Haji Abdul Aziz bin Hassan, age 56, is the Principal Advisor of Zar Business Advisory Sdn. Bhd., a boutique consultancy company, specialising in advisory for business succession, legacy planning and inheritance settlement. Dr. Haji Abdul Aziz practiced law from 1987 to 2007 and specialized in probate practice and Islamic legacy planning and Faraid distribution.

Dr Haji Abdul Aziz graduated from the University of Buckingham, England in 1982 and qualified as a Barrister-at-Law from Lincoln’s Inn, London in 1985. He subsequently received his Postgraduate Diploma in Shariah Law and Practice from Malaysia’s International Islamic University (IIUM) in 2007 and a Master of Science in Management, Accounting and Planning (MSc MAP) from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) in 2008. In 2013, he completed his Doctor in Business Administration (DBA) at the same university, specialising in family business succession.

In further recognition of his expertise, Dr Haji Abdul Aziz has been appointed Specialist in Islamic wealth management by Labuan IBFC Inc. and External Advisor in business succession and legacy planning by Azmi & Associates, a top-six legal practice group in Malaysia, and a member of the TerraLex Worldwide Network of law firms. He has also been acknowledged as a specialist in family business succession by PWC (Kuala Lumpur) and have advised them on such matters.

He is an accredited trainer with the Securities Commission of Malaysia and the Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF), and is a regular trainer with the Islamic Banking and Finance Institute of Malaysia (IBFIM) and the PNB Investment Institute (PNBi). He has received certifications as a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) from the Financial Planning Association of Malaysia (FPAM) and as an Islamic Financial Planner (IFP) from the IBFIM. He has also been appointed as moderator for the Finance Accreditation Agency, which is part of the Asian Institute of Finance, formed under the supervision of Bank Negara Malaysia. Dr. Haji Abdul Aziz has also been regularly invited to speak at international wealth management conferences across London, Jakarta, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. He is also one of the few experts from South East Asia to have attended the Family Business Succession Conference in Los Angeles 2014 organized by the Family Firm Institute (FFI) of the USA. Apart from that he has also attended seminars organized by the Family Business Network (FBW) based in Melbourne, Australia.
